“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” celebrates 30 years since its premiere with a special Thanksgiving special on HBO Max.
Will Smith shared a glimpse of the moment with two reunion shots on his Instagram, and the second definitely caught everyone’s attention. In it, Smith could be seen laughing and smiling with the former co-star Janet Hubert.
For those who do not know, this is it huge agreement. The original Aunt Viv of the series, Hubert, famously left the show after three seasons due to her very public controversy over her protagonist, a resentment that resonated in between.
In fact, it was not until 2011, Hubert said TMZ that he would never take part in a reunion “as I will never do anything with an a-hole like Will Smith,” who calls him “selfish” who “has not grown up”.
“This … the thing of reunion will never happen in my life unless there is an apology,” he said. “Who does not know the word.” Could an apology be part of their conversation?
The first image featured Smith, Tatiana Ali, Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid (the second aunt Viv) and even DJ Jazzy Jeff.
“Today is exactly 30 YEARS since the debut of @FreshPrince of Bel-Air! That’s why we do something for everyone … one for the real Family Reunion Banks will be coming to @HBOmax soon!” Smith wrote his position, including a tribute to the late James Aver, who played his uncle Phil.
This reunion is an unwritten special for the anniversary show of the Thanksgiving streamer. Although it is not yet clear how the reunification will be structured Deadline describes it as “a night of music, dancing and surprised guests”, it seems that at least the fans will see Smith and Humbert hoping to say things.
At the time of her departure, Smith suggested that the ego was a factor, joking in interviews that she wanted to be Bel-Air’s “Aunt Viv” show. He insisted that it was simply not true, insisting that he was always a professional on the set.
In 2016, as covered then Weekly, Humbert said that at least part of the problem was that Smith was unwilling to help the other protagonists fight more for their contracts, telling them, “My deal is mine and the deal is y” everyone agreed. “
She told “The Real” the same year that it was not until 2009 that she asked Smith, through his manager, to be at least honest about her behavior on the set, after putting her in the press all those years ago.
Hopefully this conversation between the two can heal as Hubert was a huge part of the show’s success. Surely the fans were excited to see her represented, getting “Aunt Viv” running on Twitter with enthusiasm.
