Sportsbooks have established the Los Angeles Lakers as a major favorite to beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. The early betting action, however, was in the underdogs and the odds are on the move.
The Lakers are -400 favorites in William Hill sports books in the US, with the Heat listed as +320 underdogs. Early support for Miami has raised the chances of moving to some sports books.
As of Monday morning, 17 of the first 18 NBA Finals bets were on Heat in the SuperBook in Westgate Las Vegas. The Lakers odds have gone from -450 to -360 in the SuperBook since the price was announced late Monday night after the game.
“There seems to be a lot of love in Miami,” JeB Sherman, vice president of risk for the SuperBook, told ESPN.
Despite initial interest in the Heat, Sherman said the SuperBook faces low six-figure liability for the title-winning Lakers, a figure that began to grow in June 2019, when Anthony Davis acquisition speculation was also obtained Cowie Leonard was circulating. The SuperBook took a lot of bets for the Lakers in the $ 10,000 to $ 20,000 range last summer, and support never stopped.
“He was quite persistent,” Sherman said of the Lakers’ support. “We got $ 20,000 [on the Lakers] at +140 in mid-September. “
While there was a lot of interest for the Lakers during the season, the Heat was not a popular choice. Ten teams attracted more bets to win the title than Miami in the SuperBook, including the Golden State Warriors, which ended up among the teams that did not participate in the NBA restart in Orlando.
The Lakers are unanimous favorites 5 points against the Heat in Game 1 of the final on Wednesday.
