Minshew Mania could be over.
The Jaguars who start quarterback Gardner Minshew are in danger of getting a bench if he continues to play, many sources say, and that could only happen today against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The media favorite who has become a cult hero in Jacksonville thanks to his mustache, quick wit and tendency to jog could be replaced by backup Mike Glennon. At one point, it looks like Minshew may be the QB of the future in Jacksonville. Many of these are in doubt now, unless you can get away with it.
If Minshew plays and is replaced by Glennon – who was the only other active QB on the day of the game – the team will likely use the farewell to reassess the QB situation.
Together with Glenon, Jacksonville drafted a crude but talented Jake Luton from Oregon State, and he could eventually be included in the decision. Both powerful wheelchairs have a different style from the Minshew, but at times impressed in practice.
The Jaguars have lost five in a row, as Minshew has contributed four fumbles with five interceptions. In season, it is 162 out of 240 (67.5 percent) for 1,682 yards with 11 touchdowns. Much of his production comes with the team following.
Head coach Doug Marrone did not rule out the move this week, telling reporters it would be “naive not to say” it is a possibility.
On the part of Minshew, he is trying to find the positive.
“We are all trying to find together trying to find solutions,” he said. “We had some great conversations this week.”
