Initial reports Monday showed Brees suffered five broken ribs, he said ESPN on Saturday that further X-rays and CAT scans revealed a total of 11 fractures in his ribs – eight on his left side and three on his right.
Brees could not finish last week’s game with 49ερ after absorbing a large blow to a bag attempt from San Francisco’s 287-pound Kentavius Street defense equipment, who was penalized for rudeness in the game.
The quarterback was placed on the injured reserve list on Friday, meaning he will miss at least three games – starting with Week 11. Atlanta hawks.
But Brees believes not all of his injuries came from dealing with Street.
The 2009 Super Bowl champion told ESPN that all the fractures on his left side probably suffered during Tampa Bay Buccaneers the game two weeks ago, but was only visible on its new post-swelling scans.
The hope is that Brees will be able to return in Week 14. Meanwhile, head coach Sean Payton named Taysom Hill the starter against the Falcons on Sunday.
