Justin Miller, Brooks ‘family lawyer, told CNN’s Ana Cabrera on Sunday that a police officer’s first comment after Rayshard Brooks’ fatal shooting was “very disturbing”.
Fulton County Attorney Paul Howard told CNN that “we have the opportunity to hear the first statement of the officer after the shooting. And what the officer said is not that his life was saved. What was his statement, he said, “I got him.”
Miller said he and his family knew the statement “I took him.”
This was very annoying for myself, my partner Chris, and Tamika, his widow. Very annoying, “Miller said.
Miller also discussed the autopsy, saying they have not seen the report, but know some of the things that will be in it.
“We know he was shot twice in the back. “Once in the middle of his back and once in his buttocks and these shots ended up killing him,” Miller said.
Regarding the charges, Miller said: “This is a little different from what George Floyd’s murder says, because it’s still murder, but legitimacy falls differently when there’s a fight and a teaser and then a person who leaves is killed. . “
As for what Miller expects, he said “it probably won’t be a murder.”
“It’s very difficult to charge,” Miller said. “You know, you’re just looking at all the other cases that were a little clearer and, you know, just as deadly to the customer, and they weren’t accused of murder.”
Miller said they were good people and city leaders were taking steps “to alleviate the problems.”
“But it’s not justice, and we don’t really believe it can ever be justice, because a man’s life has been taken away, children have lost a father and a woman has lost a man.”
