Prague celebrates the end of the blockade of the corona virus with a mass party at a table of 1,600 feet

(CNN) – People in the Czech capital, Prague, set up a 1,600-foot table and held a huge public dinner party on Tuesday to celebrate the end of the country’s coronation lock.

Residents took to the streets of the city and over the famous Charles Bridge, as the government began restricting large gatherings.

The Czech Republic quickly implemented a lock at the beginning of the global coronavirus epidemic and became one of the first countries to tell its citizens to wear masks – helping it avoid the worst pandemic and ease restrictions earlier than many other nations.

This meant that locals could enjoy an impressive outdoor dining spectacle and distance themselves from social distances to celebrate the country’s progress.

However, the World Health Organization has warned that the pandemic is not over and the Czech Republic continues to ban many foreigners from crossing its borders – a rule that allowed the event to take place.

“We want to celebrate the end of the corona crisis with people who meet and show that they are no longer afraid to meet others. That they are not afraid to accept a sandwich bite from someone,” said Ondrej Kobza, owner of the Prague cafe that hosted the event. , he told Agence France-Presse news agency.

“Everyone had to do something to be here, to bring food or a flower. The idea was for everyone to get involved,” Kobza said.

The tables were decorated with white tablecloths and flowers, and the locals drank and shared food as the sun set over the city.

A country of about 10 million, the Czech Republic has seen about 12,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 349 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. These figures are relatively low compared to some of its neighbors in Europe.

The European Union (EU) has formally agreed on a set of recommendations on Tuesday that would allow travelers from its foreign bloc to visit EU countries, months after the closure of its external borders in response to the pandemic.

As expected, the list of 14 countries does not include the United States, whose current Covid infection rate does not meet the criteria set by the EU to be considered a “safe country”.
