Investigators at the Manhattan Attorney’s Office, which is conducting a wide-ranging criminal investigation, and the New York Attorney General’s Office, which is conducting a civil investigation, have commissioned the Trump Agency to request files on counseling fees.
“Everything was done in strict accordance with applicable law and on the advice of tax advisers and experts,” Alan Garten, a Trump adviser to the Times, told the Times. He added, “All applicable taxes have been paid and no party has received an unjustified benefit.”
The New York investigation is the most serious that Trump faces as he leaves office and becomes a private individual.
The proxy has been fighting for a year for a draw for the president’s tax returns. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the matter soon. This investigation is extensive and prosecutors have suggested in court complaints that it could include anything from fraud insurance, tax fraud or fraud schemes – the equivalent of a federal bank fraud charge.
The New York Attorney General’s investigation focuses on whether the Trump Organization or Trump inappropriately inflates the value of certain assets in violation of tax laws or when seeking loans and a $ 100 million loan forgiveness. They have identified at least four Trump’s properties under control.
