The first 18 holes in the 2020 US Open played as easily as the Winged Foot would allow them for the rest of the week. Round 2 on Friday is expected to include full winds, cold temperatures and tighter greens than we saw on the first day. Hopefully you liked this whole score in the first 18 holes because you probably aren’t going to see much of the rest.
What you are going to see on Friday are the best golfers in the world to keep their heads above par. Matthew Wolf and Thomas Peters will go early after huge first laps in which they both made 4 downs. Leader Justin Thomas (-5) will go slow, as will Patrick Reed (-4) and Rory McIlroy (-3). We will watch them fight each other and – perhaps more relevantly – a golf course that will start a massive battle over the next three days. We will also see if Tiger Woods (+3), Dustin Johnson (+3) and Jordan Spieth (+3) can compete to make the cut on Friday in the first of the six big companies of the season.
