Indonesia’s Lion Air restarts flights and cancels them again

(CNN) – Only weeks after the restart of domestic flights, Indonesian Lion Air canceled them again, citing problems with non-Covid-19 passengers.

The Lion Air Group, which also includes Batik Air and Wings Air, began slowly introducing short-haul routes on May 10. But the resumed flights did not last long.

The company announced that all routes have been suspended again since June 5 due to widespread problems with passengers who do not properly follow the coronavirus rules related to social distancing and health disclosure.

In a press release, a representative of Lion Air explains that “many prospective passengers failed to make air travel because they did not meet the necessary documents and conditions during the coronary virus pandemic warning period 2019 (Covid-19)”.
Several international flights offered by the airline have also been canceled. In normal operations, Lion Air also flies to Saudi Arabia, China,, Malaysia and Singapore.
The Jakarta-based airline has taken steps to ensure safety on board, such as blocking the middle seats, deep cleaning planes and replacing aircraft HEPA filters when each passenger was suspected of having an illness.

In announcing the decision, Lion Air emphasized its concern for the health of employees, especially the cabin crew, who were at risk of infecting passengers with coronavirus.

“Lion Air Group supports the government in its efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 by actively participating in the implementation of health protocols established by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Health and the Task Force,” the company said in a statement on June 3. .

So far there is no word on when these flights will be rescheduled. Lion Air offers a refund for passengers who have already booked their tickets, but so far does not allow anyone to make new reservations.
