The shooting took place around 3:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, when dispatchers received several calls from the distribution center that reported an active shooting and many shots were fired, said Lt. Col. Yvette Borden, a spokesman for the Texas County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses described a man driving to the central parking lot of the distribution center, where he turned the game four times before crashing his car into the building, Borden said. The man then got out of his vehicle with what was described as a semi-automatic rifle.
Around the agencies responded to the scene to help the Sheriff’s Office County Sheriff’s Office, with a Red Bluff police officer being the first to arrive. The officer exchanged gunfire with the suspect and was later joined by another Red Bluff officer, Borden said.
The suspect was shot and taken to a local hospital, Red Bluff City director Rick Crabtree told CNN by telephone.
Hendrickson said the St. Louis Community Hospital Elizabeth at Red Bluff, part of Dignity Health, received a total of six patients from the Walmart Distribution Center.
Two are dead and four are in good condition, Hendrickson said. He could not provide information on the nature of the injuries or the ages of the people taken to the hospital.
A Walmart spokesman told CNN he was aware of the situation and was working with law enforcement. The company said in a statement that it was “deeply saddened by this tragic incident”.
“Our focus is on supporting our partners, as well as their families and colleagues on the facility. This is an active police investigation and we will continue to work with the Sherriff County Tehama Office and assist in their investigation in every possible way.” , Walmart’s statement is read.
The Sheriff’s Office in Teham County is conducting a criminal investigation with the help of the Department of Justice and the FBI. The Tamama District Attorney’s Office is investigating the police department of the incident, according to Borden.
